Week 6
The Hoop
The children explore space to the rhythm of the drum. They circle around the outside of their house as the long as the drum is played, but at soon as it stops they must jump back inside as quickly as possible.
They can also walk like two of the characters they already know so well: the giant and the ballerina. This allows them to feel the difference in dynamics with their own bodies and challenges them to move at different tempos.
Finally, to enter and exit their house, they must jump in and out to the rhythm of the drum.
This activity requires imagination as well as attention and good listening skills, because the must imagine themselves as the different characters. Their coordination is also tested while they jump into and out of their house.
Tip: Very young children who are not yet capable of jumping can simply step into and out of the house.
