Week 6
Move Like This
Everyone is up on their feet and making a variety of movements with different parts of their body. The youngest participants can continue to do the activity seated.
The children alternate between balancing on their tip toes and their heels so they can wiggle their toes. They walk in place to get their legs moving and then move their arms like the wings of a bird: up and down. As they flap their imaginary wings, they bend their knees and take dainty steps like a bird. Finally, they rotate their heads gently to each side to fully engage the whole body.
In this activity, the children bring their attention to different parts of the body and synchronize their movements to the beat of the music. They physically experience staccato (short notes) and legato (connected notes). They also work on lateral awareness and movement.
